Anhrak's Minecraft Tips and Tricks #1, Unnesecary Torches

Post by Anhrak » Thu 30 Aug , 2012 1:14 pm

Hey everyone. Since I already have some experience in Minecraft already, I would like to share some tips and tricks that will come really handy when playing minecraft! Some deal with mods, others deal with vanilla minecraft content by just using the settings.

Nr 1 is about the Torches. They are used to illuminate a certain area, and prevent monsters from spawning nearby the torch. However... when adventuring only the illumination is used. But what if I told you... there is a way that you don't need torches at all?

Torches can be abolished by simply putting your brightness setting to 100%. This will grant you the ability to (barely) see in the dark. Ofcourse, you shouldn't play in a room then which is too bright. This will save some inventory space, and continiously focusing on placing a torch wherever you go. However, if you take torches for navigation, it's still recommended to take them with you.

This was part 1 of Anhrak's Tips and tricks, post if you found this information usefull!

B-but how will we see ores and prevent mobs from spawning?

Also, when you do put torches down, put them on the right side of the wall. That way you can easily navigate back as they will appear on the left side, the path you came from.

Tips #2
Use Torches!
Did you know about combining tools? (Don't do if they're enchanted)
Save tools with good enchantments... like mining with a regular diamond pick, but mining diamonds with a luck-enchantment or a silktouch, to mine it up later with a luck-enchantment.
Don't use a big stall for cows, pigs and chicken. 3x3 is enough
use silk touch for redstone if you don't want to waste inventory & storage space
block up iron, lapis, gold, dias and emeralds. save space.
Always wear armour
1 coal can smelt 8 blocks at once. don't waste coal.
Travel by nether. it's way faster, but don't forget the fire-potion if a ghast knocks you off a cliff.
Don't mine down.
harvest jungle trees. easy to harvest and lots of log.
use enderchests. it's the safest way to transport valuables. and acting as a 2nd inventory. very useful

and most important:
DON'T BUILD THE EIFFEL TOWER!! I TRIED!!
after 50% of the tower was done and it still looked perfect i realised, that the plan i used had wrong propotions.... ended in a disaster.

Play minecraft like a boss!

 PETA will burn down your house if they find out how you treat your poor animals!
And who are you, the proud lord said, that I must bow so low?
Only a cat of a different coat, that's all the truth I know.
In a coat of gold or a coat of red, a lion still has claws,
And mine are long and sharp, my lord, as long and sharp as yours.
And so he spoke, and so he spoke, that lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o'er his hall, with no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall, and not a soul to hear.

originally it really was pinky's idea, i was surprised by the fact you could already breed villagers.
nah, x doors means x/3 citizens.
i read that in the wiki and told pinky to build lots of doors.
those villagers chose themselves to stay in the corner of the village.
and since there's a wall and 3 iron golems they're protected from mobs.

Raising the amount of villagers is fine but I would like you to keep an eye on the esthetics of the map. Try to build a "real" village/city instead of cubes ;)

Continue a discussion for the villagers on a new thread. Only Tips and Tricks here.
