New map on 1.4?

Post by Anhrak » Sun 16 Sep , 2012 9:04 am

Hey minecrafters!

As some of you already have heard, I wanted to request a new minecraft map once minecraft 1.4 comes out. This request was supported by three rational facts:
- Once a new update comes, it means new content. However, for that new content to come, it need a new chunk. Now the point comes, all chunks of the mainland have been loaded, forcing us to travel hell far away before we can enjoy the new features.
- New players, but also vet LDG players, can have a fresh start, without new players being forced to look at advantages others already had ahead of them.
- Nearly all resources close by have been depleted. A lot of diamonds have been taken (only the extreme hidden ones not), all strongholds have been found, NPC villages have been murdered out, all temples have been raided, there's barely anything to get if a new player comes in the LDG minecraft server, forcing them to travel over the 6.000's (even 10.000+ when south or east) to get actually something.

Now, I've discussed this with some friends on the server, and many didn't found a fresh start a bad idea. However, at their desire, they found it pityfull that their achieved items would be gone as well, so they asked me if I could add this to my request: People who have played on this map (the 1.2.5 map) have the oppurtunity to fill a special chest with anything. Those items will be given to them once they started in the 1.4.1 map.

So in short, along with a special feedback question, I would like to request a new map once minecraft 1.4.1 is out. For information, Minecraft 1.4.1 will be released around Hallowe'en, 31th of october.

Thats an absolutely no-go from my side. I playing this game a few minutes per day cause its relaxing and fun to build on your house, castle whatever. To build something up piece for piece or change something on your existing property is the main object of this game. Anhrak i dont blame you or your friends for your playstyle, you can do what you want as long it doenst effect me or the other players, but as far as i noticed you and your friends exploited the "specials" of the map, like the strongholds or the dragon eye in a blink of an eye and now you are bored cause you got nothing left to do. What will be on new map ? It will be the same.....you maybe will have plundered your surrounding area, the strongholds and the dragon egg while we "normal" users are still building up our own properties. And then ? Again a new map ?
I dont mind if i have nothing of the new stuff in my chunk, im not interested in always new stuff and beside i have plenty enought material left in my area. And if i should need something of the "new" stuff i simply travel there one time and build up a outpost with a netherportal...no problem.

If Alex or DB should really consider this i want to have the existing map (if this is possible) for my own and rather rent my own server with it.

Hey GiZmo, there's no need to go so defensive as this is a request and not a confirmed change.

I will be honest, it is not I that plundered everything, murdered everything or did everything. All I could visit was the northeast and eastern section of the mainland, but that became habited quickly. Before I joined the LDG servers, two strongholds were already raided, all temples except on the eastern/north eastern side had been raided, I found only one npc village which resulted in an assassination from another user soon after.

When I came, I already had to walk 1-2 miles before I could have my 'own' spot. I've worked hard myself as well on everything I've built, and I do not regret if I choose abandon that. Instead, creativity varies every time you play, and I bet that it may even be more exciting if we all start at one, more people will join the creativity.

But true, as a side-request, a copy of the map for the classic's can always be asked, or a backup once the new map has became boring, those optional things are always able to realise, and can be solved with just a few words! =).

if i may intervent your furious discussion for a briefexplanation of the new features:
http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Upcoming_Features
there are NONE which cannot be found on the mainland
(
carrots and potatoes can be obtained in villages
)

Apart from this argument a would like to list my own pros and cons (as i've been taught in school):

map_change_on_1_4_1

Pro:
-Fresh start, equality.
-dragon is living, as do villagers in all villages.
-some players [ONLY SOME] are bored already, so this would inspire them to restart.

Contra:
-I hate loosing my stuff. (keeping some of it would make no sense, we [elsewhere] already tried... total disaster)
-I hate loosing my creations, as there is always, no matter what, room for more.
-Villagers can be bread... lol bread. and they're useless... still... i guess.
-The same will happen in 2 (two) months:
Anhrak wrote:Nearly all resources close by have been depleted.
-The Universe in the MC-credits talks about exploring, which is vital to minecraft.
there are still thousands of temples, villages and mines, just some way outside the center of the map.
This is what endless maps are for. And getting there can take an hour at max. (ask me or focus)

well clearly there are more con's.

in my dialogue with ahnrak i named an option:
creating a parallel map which would coexist like the overworld, the nether and the end do.
ops would be able to port between worlds or we would have to install mods
i personally dislike this because i had a bad experience. it never worked proper.
the mc community would be split. which is partly the same as if part of the ppl joined another server.

the vast dimensions of a map inherit sufficient material for up to 100 players at least,
as, maybe, shown by mainstream servers.

personally i'd like to stay by this map.

ah, just came to my mind. we could relocate the spawn xD

im against fresh start.
1. it will consume much more time to rebuild all our structures again then to
explore new lands in current world
2. creating new world isnt necessary to get new features.
its better to move all together to new unexplored continent far far away from
our's and to move spawnpoint there.
3. resources in our explored land arent depleted by far. i would say that we hadnt
extracted even 1% of diamonds in explored lands.
4. if your place is stripped of necessary resources (diamonds, etc), you can
build your new base somewhere else. anyway you will have to do that in newly
created world, right?
5. if you dont want to build an new base, you can only build a mine. and railway,
that connect it to your base.

To which new features are you referring to? And by the way, if you'd like to explore new chunks I'm gladly giving you a boat and a stack of bread so you can relocate to e.g. 40000 -40000 and start to seek the new features.
Anhrak wrote: - New players, but also vet LDG players, can have a fresh start, without new players being forced to look at advantages others already had ahead of them.
Would that mean that any new player arriving two weeks after the new map has been created can demand a fresh start to make him equal to the rest?
Anhrak wrote: - Nearly all resources close by have been depleted. A lot of diamonds have been taken (only the extreme hidden ones not)
I highly doubt that all the "main land" has been subject to extensive branch mining. Otherwise, there should be more than enough ores and diamonds left - maybe not in already explored caves...
Anhrak wrote: , all strongholds have been found,
Who killed the Enderdragon, again? And how long will it takes you to do the same on the new map?

Anhrak wrote: NPC villages have been murdered out,
Then you'll be glad to hear that you can rebuild them with the newest version :)
Anhrak wrote: all temples have been raided,
I remember a certain player searching for temples to acquire some special stones...

After a month on a new map you would have exactly the same problem.
alex wrote: -some players [ONLY SOME] are bored already, so this would inspire them to restart.
Well, in that case those players are free to explore the rest of the map and find a new place to stay. Between the spawn point and the far lands are 12550821 of blocks in x and z direction. That should be more than enough to keep the bored player occupied for quite a long time...
And who are you, the proud lord said, that I must bow so low?
Only a cat of a different coat, that's all the truth I know.
In a coat of gold or a coat of red, a lion still has claws,
And mine are long and sharp, my lord, as long and sharp as yours.
And so he spoke, and so he spoke, that lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o'er his hall, with no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall, and not a soul to hear.

The skylands are actually a good addition if you want to put another world in. It is basically like an overworld except the actual land does not exceed higher than level 30. This means that ores are really close to each other and are very easy to mine out. If you fall off, you'll die.

There are some already pre-made skylands, but there is a planned one coming soon. http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Sky_Dimension

I can give a boat too. So you will have 2 of them.

Don't thank me, you are welcome.

by the way, about the ender dragons, who killed the rest? When our group (Bboy1245, Metla2m, Kroaser and me) were done, we struggled getting our egg while 4 other dragons were still present. When I return now, there suddenly were about 8 fountains instead of 4 before there were before. So it's sure we didn't exterminate the last of them.
