i was wondering if we could have acess to some commands which may help us meet up or visit mates on the server

I could talk to Takeo about adding the Essentials plugin, but it's very likely not going to happen. If you want to travel faster then just use the Nether. Many roads have already been constructed there by other players, connecting the various player's homes. There is also a large Nether railroad network, operated by the Pinky-giZmo Railway Company, which has a length of about 3000 blocks (corresponds to 24000 blocks distance in the Overworld).
