Re: Skill system
I'd like to point out that neither I nor anyone else needs the skill system to get a ballpark of your skill and additional factors like whether you're a hipfire spammer. The only difference is that you will be berated as simply being shit rather than having an a.xx value to go with it. Additionally, it's useful for figuring out who alters are and for finer team balance control. Mean skill, as Izumo has already pointed out, isn't everything. It treats the whole as the direct sum of the parts, which is a fallacy.
The scoreboard no longer shows endgame stats to players hiding their skill.

Re: Skill system
Well I'd really like to keep the endgame stats, to check my progress after weapon changes etc.
The Hide Skill option should just be for hiding from public view (including the web page if possible/easy). All public or all private.
(and BTW, my Hide Skill option still keeps resetting to OFF on a regular basis - not sure if it's whenever the mod is updated)

Re: Skill system
The best solution would be to hide the skills on the main scoreboard (or whatever you name it: F1) and show/hide the personnal scoreboard at the end of each game in terms of the state of the "hide skill" button.

Re: Skill system
No personal skill for anyone in F1 sounds good.
All the while keeping the skill value at the end of the game - so people can track their own skill if they so please.
Failing no skill in F1, make 'HideSkill' the server default, so people can show skill if they care to brag.

Re: Skill system
I'll keep the skill as opt-out (i.e public by default) and saying it again, I'm going to dismiss any motion to "hide something skill-related for everyone".
You can turn skill off on the scoreboard already (will show PPR instead of skill) if you want to. I can hide your skill on the webpage easily, though not entirely understood if you want to show the endgame stats or to hide them, maybe there could be extra menu option for this?
Hide skill option will reset itself if ticked after the end of the game or if the game did not finish, it's stored on the server.

Re: Skill system
Why do you want it visible?
You seem to be only speaking in 'I will' and 'I wont' instead of giving valid reasons for your choice.

Re: Skill system
But I did explain my point of view on the thing. None of you gave a valid reason on completely hiding your skill, other than your personal opinion, upon:
A) Why people shouldn't have a choice on whether they will show or hide their skill?
B) Why the feedback is "so negative", when there's 11% of the players hiding their skill?
C) Why by default the skill should be a "hidden feature"?

Re: Skill system
A) Because of constant comments about lowskiller, from you as one of the top contributors, people playing with skill in mind, not playing as they usually would, caring for stacking teams. I don't enjoy being people called 4.xx shitters, LDG should be a better place than that. The sad thing is it's the admin team who seem to use these phrases the most. Those 'shitters' are the ones keeping the server alive by using it.Izumo_CZ wrote:But I did explain my point of view on the thing. B) I am not wrong when I say most people do not know how, or are against the system entirely (as myself). Not to mention often when you hide skill it shows itself later. Besides, why should I even bother to hide it manually when everyone knows them from looking at the rankings or from previous memory. In its current format hideskill is just a placebo, and knowing about a placebo defeats the purpose.
C) Because you only intended it for balancing purposes and with it visible, people play to raise their own skill, not to balance the teams. There have been many people complaining about the system, yet I don't see anyone coming to the forum especially to say how it's a good thing.
It's happening on BW often and also more frequently on AS. People will only play when they are confident their skill value will increase.
None of this is about my own personal skill. My entire argument has been how its detrimental to the servers and other peoples playing. I'd rather see people playing without fear of losing something than sitting in spec waiting for an opportune moment to join.

Re: Skill system
I'd like to address B and C becaise I don't have an opinion on A since I think having the choice shouldn't neccessarily be removed.Izumo_CZ wrote:But I did explain my point of view on the thing. None of you gave a valid reason on completely hiding your skill, other than your personal opinion, upon:

B) 11% is significant. You have to consider the fact that a great many probably don't know much about skill or how to even hide it themselves. What you suggest is that if the default setting for skill is to be hidden, all but 89% of players would change their setting so it would be shown. You're lumping the people who actuaply care and want skill to be visible with the countless people who simply use default settingg because they are either indifferent or don't know how to change it.
C) Goes along with what I just said. If only 11% want their skill hiddem and the rest do, changing default setting to hidden would have the vast majority changing this setting. I can't see that happening.
Valid reasons for hiding skill have been given. Skill levels are an easily identified source of strife, players hating on '#.xx shitters' and the like, people jumping to spectate when they see a high skill player join the other team. It doesn't make the community any friendlier and it makes the atmosphere more hostile.

Since there is no "Thank you" button I have to say that I fully agree with iRobot's points.
