Ugh, when I open up UeD, the place where the viewports are, is just plain white, can't mouseclick there also..
Top toolbar and side toolbar are there though..
EDIT can fix the prob with adding the viewports by 'view>..' oh well

I'd suggest to make some trial maps, they only need basic editing, and are fun to make

!
To start with assault maps is too hard for most basic mappers, like myself.

Just making basic rooms with the help of that book.
I'll see what it's in my ability when I'm done with it. (and that's still a very long way to go :p)

Erm, the book wants me to add some static meshes, but I can't find the most, so can you download them or are there in a special folder or ...?

There are many StatcMeshes packages with the game !
Go to the StaticMeshes browser and click "open packages"
You can now see all packages.
You can create a StaticMeshe in UnrealEd too (but not the best, using a 3D editor as Maya or 3Dstudio is better for that)

Ok, If you place a light texture (static mesh) is there a way to let it light by itself or do you really have to put a lightbulb under it?
thx PJ
