Who made the official one anyway? I know there was a competetion I missed.
I am also quite regretting the fact that I made them 171x90, as that dimension is too small. The reason I made them that size is because it is the default forum logo size for many forum styles.

A tip from my side:
No matter what you are creating the images for, always make them bigger than needed. I'm talking about sizes with four digits here.
E.g. the original psd file of the logo you see on top of the forum has a size of 1600x500. Sizing down is always easy and can be done with very less or even no loss of quality. And btw: upscaling in photoshop doesn't do a bad job either... just saying.

yea, I never really thought of making it bigger as I made it off of an old template I dug up from a folder.
Feel free to use as sigs as long as you didn't make them.
