Only Calypto uses Windows 8.
Windows 8 will never been that awesome. It is Fedora 19 under Gnome 3.8.2.

Gentoo is indeed a good choice for server doing calculations, because it's easiest to solve all the BS around running the commerical applications doing the compilation / job / simulation.
Of course a good bunch of auch apps are Windows only, but that's another thing.
