You reinforce my point. If I said it to a friend, there would be no issue. If I said it to someone who wasn't, there would be.Izumo_CZ wrote:Hmm, from the "wat" topic in appealsiRobot wrote:Surely it depends on the degree. "Get the fuck out of my hellbender you black monkey" would warrant a ban, where as the aforementioned "what's up nigga" is not really racism.Izumo_CZ wrote:I certainly would not mute for racism but ban right away there. Muting would be for something that is lesser (foreign language, annoyance, spam etc.)As you said, "what's up nigga" is still unacceptable.iRobot wrote:If you let people join the server and go "whats up my nigga's" without harm, then calling people nigger's is only one degree away from that, and people won't see the difference between the two.
So I'm with gizmo here.
If I went in work tomorrow and said to my boss, "what's up nigga", I'd be without a job very quickly.

Re: Muting for chat offenses [split topic]
This topic has been started since I posted comments whilst playing UT.
As the instigator of this thread, I hope I can still come across as being unbiased when saying that I also do agree that minor chat offences should first be dealt with mutes rather than ban's however extremely bad sportsmanship such as Racism, Homophobia (as a quick aside, I have seen some people call each other fags etc and this has gone unpunished) and Nazism to name but a few should be banned.

Don't mean to break up this discussion but is there a timeframe as to how long it takes to decide what the next steps are?

In your case, despite the ban was made by giZmo, consider Eify being the banning admin. If she will not want to lift your ban, then it stays.SASHamish wrote:Don't mean to break up this discussion but is there a timeframe as to how long it takes to decide what the next steps are?

As I we're not allowed to PM admins regarding bans, could you please direct her to this thread if you don't mind and if it isn't breaking any rules?

Well ehm ... post a new ban appeal thread (because the original one got hijacked by discussion). And I think she's aware anyway.
