You missed his point. He's not talking about the interface, he's talking about the gameplay. It's a fact, whatever any console fanboys might say, that keyboards and mice are superior for FPS play to such a degree that such games actually have to be dumbed down in order to be playable on a gamepad / controller. The only other way it works is if the game is set up so that the easier, more ergonomic access to buttons (a reason why controllers beat keyboards in fighting games) is more important than the loss of aim caused by analogue sticks.

Mass Effect is a terrible example Izumo.
It's not first person, you're heavily limited in movement (John Shepard hasn't even mastered jumping, and didn't master rolling until 3rd game) and one button operates everything (Spacebar doing doors, cover mechanics, pickups, rolling).
It's a perfect example of a shooter game that has been 'consolized'.

Honestly, in which game you actually jump in combat, except for UT style when avoiding things like rockets or flak alternate? But it's true that one button operates everything, however I somehow don't find that as somekind of defect or real dumb-down when the actions are not used at once.

In a Mass Effect game, the only advantage a KB/Mouse gives you over a pad is slightly more accurate aiming.
In UT2004, the differences in using a KB/Mouse over a pad is night and day. Even playing UT2004 daily with a pad, you'd struggle to reach average keyboard user level.
Besides, the topic is about UT genre style games, since we were talking about UT4
Unless the console and PC versions are built from the ground up separately, then you'll always be limited in your actions. Since it's difficult to balance a game based on a KB user being able to do finesse shield jumps and wall dodges, when it can't be done very well at all with a controller.
Therefore, they give everyone limits, rather than just limiting the console user. But us PC gamers don't want these limits. We want free flowing combat, like UT2004.

The economy argument is infallible, I agree, and this is why hating on console users has become valid these days. It's no use blaming companies like Activision for maximising profits by appealing to ignorant people who play FPS on a controller, all the while spouting the myth that controllers are as good as keyboards and mice to avoid having to feel bad about themselves. The real blame lies with the ignorant people themselves for being that market and now making the rest of us suffer for it.

Yup, I hope console owners soon get the same treatment - future console games could get dumbed-down further, so that gesture (Kinect) users can compete equally with controller users.
On the PC, it's clear now that the majority of users were always just content consumers and are rapidly being lost to consoles/smartphones/touchpads, so the PC seems destined to be used by content creators only. However, a significant proportion of those should (hopefully) be relatively intelligent with some disposable income, while being capable of (and eager for) some skilled keyboard/mouse games. Factor in a bit of growth across Asia, and there could be some hope, maybe.
If only Microsoft had done a standardized PC gaming online app store with chat, meeting rooms, ladders, forums, updates and anti-cheat. Game developers would only have to write the actual games rather than the whole environment every time.
Hey - perhaps Steam should write an OS
