I am more and more tending to remove the memes. The way I see it one can't blame the playerbase for the recent raise of trolling. It was a global phenomenon which has been led by the "rage pictures" a.k.a. memes. Removing them might help reduce the spam.

@Izumo: Postcount is just one aspect. Yes, I do care. Because this way you see who is active one the forum. Not by spamming, but by participating on topic.

PS: Why is it always the race/as community which lowers the niveau of the playerbase/forum? I mean.. you don't see the bw or mc guys spamming.

Mmh, actually Mr. (or Ms?) Calypto started the off topic train, just saying...and the EMP posts weren't actually off-topic as I see it. A bit of hilariousness could promote more participation on the forum too...

Yes, please. All of those memes are super childish and nerdy, too. You dont even need regular smileys imo but I understand that some people just cant post something without any graphics in it.

Why is there a Postcount in the first place? It only motivates people to post spam to increase their e-penis aka "oh fuck yes, I have over 1000 posts *fapfapfap*"

Tbh on the AS/Race server I judged some players completly wrong. This forum showed me how some of them really are and I have to say some of them need to grow up already.

I agree with iRobot here that you can't generalize. I merely said that the kids are mainly on the race server, which doesn't mean that everybody on the race is a kid

Postcount may not be useful for you, izumo, but surely it will give a good overview to the newcomers. That's the whole idea behind the postcount on forums in first place. As a side effect it gives you certain ranks (which we didn't activate here, so you may stop the post-count bitching -.-)

The meme icons do drag the place down, though. There's already stigma attached to using them because they've existed for years and only just been made mainstream by Reddit, and now they're as overdone as fuck.

Shitposting anywhere informs others joining the forum that such behaviour is acceptable, which leads to difficulties when I then try to deal with users shitposting in debate or topical threads. In the SNITCH and glitch report thread there are examples of admins egging on the offending user, posting in a similar manner or advocating the conduct the thread was there to solve. In all these cases, the posts are meant as pure annoyance. I'd been letting it go until someone decided to fuck with my own profile, an aspect of which had been hidden to me. Now it stops.

Posts of lower than normal quality will be tolerated because of the low userbase. Le troll face and EMP spam will not.

Obviously, shitposting in topical threads, that are not concluded or in which we're constructively debating something is something different than shitposting in offtopic thread that went down in firsts posts. Also SNITCH thread never really had some sense as a whole, there was some serious note here and there and that's all - and honestly, if IllegalName won't actively participate (which I think is quite obvious, hence the "troll material"), then it's no point to try to debate something, just ban ban ban when he breaks the rules.

I'm not bitching about post-count, you are / were. I just said it's just a number and the post count ranks are for a different kind of forum, where you primarilly contribute towards the site by debating / putting up things. We're gaming servers with custom content on UT2004 (dunno how MC, but UT2004 heavily dominates in terms on playerbase / forum userbase, so I'll consider just that for this post) so primary contributions for us is new content to our servers. That's why the post count / rank is pretty much meaningless. But well, if there will be some collision with Minecraft, we can split the forums then.

I can decide that, it's just that I won't do it that way based on obvious reasons. If there would be consensus about the meme removals then they would be removed. Not really sure if they always take the place down though, it depends on their usage.

Nah, on serious note I don't think it will spread beyond somekind of heavy general shitposting without control. And why so serious btw.? It's not even like the chat in UT2004 with all the quote spam.

We share banter and 'take the piss' out of each other all the time in game. Why would here be different?
