Well I meant "force" as disallow just OK'ing that in 0.1 second, not as intentionally avoiding it.

You still can't force them to *read* it.

Heh - and have a timeout that deletes their installation if they dare to get any of 'em wrong...

Sorry, I didn't realise this thread was about how to achieve a "decreasing playerbase" :D

Wasn't suggesting that any of this be implemented HERE. If the game had just come out, it would be a different story.

Kinda worries me that you thought I was serious rather than simply offering my views on the nature of people.

Hmm, I could put such questionairre on AS / RACE server, asking "EMP - it's the best!" with options "true" and "false". Answering the wrong one - session ban. That would let in only those who were adapted ... and adapt the rest.

I'm not typically a complainer, but since you're discussing decreasing player base, I just thought I'd throw in my 2 euros. Yesterday, you had a huge number of maps that haven't been on this server in a long time or ever that I know of. It was refreshing to have something more to choose from, rather than having to play the same old same old, day in and day out. I was very disappointed to see that today you're back to the same... OLD... maps... UGH. Because of the limited number of worthwhile maps, we're more or less forced to play the same few worthwhile maps over and over (and over) again everyday.

Is there a technical reason why you can't offer more maps? If not, is there a reason why you limit the number of maps?
From my perspective, you're player base is going to continue decrease, because the limited number maps you currently offer are getting sooo OLD and/or kinda suck (IMO). I know the admins don't particularly like small maps, but I kinda miss maps like Orbital Engine and trying to pry players like BomBom out of the second level. Since the player base has gotten so small, and I live in the US, I spend much of my time playing with bots, so small maps are a must.

On another note regarding bans and decreasing user base, I have been banned twice. On both occasions I had no idea why I had been banned, because I don't necessarily focus my attention on reading the constant banter that is going on. I guess what I'm saying is that before you ban someone, you might want to verify that they know they are actually reading your condemnations, particularly when they are doing something that everyone has been doing forever, but on the spur of the moment you decide you don't like it. For example... Goliath.... throwing grenades, etc down the elevator shaft from the roof.

Just sayin... end of sermon.... Amen.

Maps have to be regulated and so, ultimately, we cannot just throw in everything we have and hope for the best. The majority of the maps accidently added at the weekend were in fact Invasion-based (PoolParty  ) (for some reason the gametypes are still using the Arenamaster map list, so I've matched the Freon and Arenamaster maps identically until someone can reset this bug).

However, we do seem to rotate between maybe 10 maps or less during the peak hours (Freon specific), so I wouldn't be against reviewing the situation further. I have a map waiting to be added once the server bugs have been ironed out, for example. I don't mind working through some of the discarded maps either and analysing them, but ultimately it would have to be a joint decision whether or not to add them to the list (I guess they were discarded for a reason ;)). Additionally, I guess ignorance is an issue - if we don't play half the maps in the list then, inevitably, players just won't vote for them over the few they do know ...

I've been suggesting linking all similar map versions together so players could choose which one they want. When one version wins, they all gray out. It's such a small change but has very high potential for renewing The Experience.

It has already been shown that disabling maps doesn't work to promote more variety. Repeat limit used to be 75 and people would just vote map#76 as soon as it was available. If their map of choice was almost available, for ex #70, then they would strive to vote 5 small maps.

Small maps were removed because a lot of players will deliberately vote them with high playercounts to engineer spam. If they need to be returned, they'll have to be totally locked out above a certain playercount.
