Re: Decreasing playerbase
As far as I know people simply don't vote maps they're not familiar with. It's not LDG-specific, the same thing happens on any UT2004 server out there.

Re: Decreasing playerbase
Thanks for your reply's. In response, from my perspective more is (usually) better than less, variety is the spice of life, etc., and that most people would appreciate a larger selection of maps.Stanky wrote:I'm not typically a complainer, but since you're discussing decreasing player base, I just thought I'd throw in my 2 euros. Yesterday, you had a huge number of maps that haven't been on this server in a long time or ever that I know of. It was refreshing to have something more to choose from, rather than having to play the same old same old, day in and day out. I was very disappointed to see that today you're back to the same... OLD... maps... UGH. Because of the limited number of worthwhile maps, we're more or less forced to play the same few worthwhile maps over and over (and over) again everyday.
In addition to the larger number of smaller maps, there were also more of the larger maps and different variations of them, which I found a lot more interesting than just playing the same variation day in and day out. Cal and I played a different variation of a couple of the larger maps, which I really enjoyed... and I totally beat his ass

If your primary reason for not adding all maps is that players will have a tendency to select smaller maps, would it be possible to list what you consider small maps in a separate Freon category like you do with the CTF Freon maps? You could indicate that they are only to be selected if there are like 12 (real) players, or whatever you think the minimum should be. That way, you won't have to ban players for selecting smaller maps... which I was banned for the first time, when I had no idea that it was against the "rules" btw.
Food for thought.

This actually exists, try voting Highlander by yourself or Campgrounds on a full server, works both ways.Stanky wrote:You could indicate that they are only to be selected if there are like 12 (real) players, or whatever you think the minimum should be. Re: Decreasing playerbase
Why not have the server make a suggestion map in agreement to number of players with 1 point in the vote? I normally don't search for a map but wait for a suggested map in the list, and then vote. I also do not vote usually cause I take the 30 secs to go for a coffee or stretch... So, a suggestion may be more effective to catch maps that are not often played. Also voters tend to vote for the selected maps.. once someone supports it, there are more and more adding votes...

If any of you know how to work LDGVote, feel free to put small maps back in the list, but they need to be totally locked out of voting with higher playercounts.

Re: Decreasing playerbase
The reason certain maps aren't "often played" is because the majority of the players don't like to play them, including the admins who don't select them either. That's why I am suggesting adding all maps, including different variations of the more popular maps, so that we don't have to play the exact same map over and over again. If you feel you must, you could grey out the other variations of the map, like you do with Campgrounds, after one variation has been selected. if you want to grow and/or maintain your player base, I really think you need to consider adding more variety.Butcher wrote:Why not have the server make a suggestion map in agreement to number of players with 1 point in the vote? Re: Decreasing playerbase
I try to vote for maps with low play counts that I know aren't played often but it doesn't work so good.
