Server lag

Post by iRobot » Tue 10 Jan , 2012 10:32 am

Sort I'd try and get some opinions from others here since asking in game doesn't ever result in much of feedback.

Often, when the server is mid game with a healthy number of players, I'll have around 40-50 ping, but it will feel pretty unresponsive particularly in vehicles and feel more like 150. I also have issues where I get a sudden burst of packetloss, which results in vehicles wildly just turning off the platform for no apparent reason, or me just hovering in mid air for a few seconds.

In the netstats information, the packetloss is always under outbound, but that means nothing to me.

Does anyone else have any problems that sound similar to the above, and/or any idea how to remedy it?

Reason I post here is, I've never had an issue on the BW server so it's pretty isolated. For the record, it's not FPS lag as I don't ever drop below 90fps with my hardware.

Probably a longshot but maybe someone has an idea.

We are aware of some lag problems on Assault / Racing server as well as BW servers are OK. It seems there is a lag sometimes in practice round causing packetloss for several seconds (fortunately this doesn't matter much), and rarely this happends ingame (which annoys). Right now it's unknown to me what is the exact cause of this lag. The vehicle "stuck in their last state -> turning off the track etc." is a result of packetloss. I myself has some issues with my Wi-Fi so I scream "LAG" more oftenly then it actually is this "server lag". It seems that this lag is somehow related to nitro vehicles.

We've recently reduced "choppyness" lag (CPU load -> 100%), occuring on full server, however I'm still not satisfied with that and working on this, at this moment, I don't know the cause of this.

Well the P/L in the practice round has always been there, and is pretty consistent as you say, doesn't have any real impact.

The mid game one though is extremely frustrating (to me at least..dont see anyone else compaining in chat usually) so I always thought it was just me, and have endeavoured to fix it to no avail.

The 40 ping feeling like 150, I didnt think a full server would cause that. But if the CPU is maxing out then I guess its a possibility. With playing nitro vehicles online its quite outstanding how different it is with 0 ping doing the same maps.

As always, appreciate your efforts on the matter.

PS, Did I post this in general?? I thought I put it in Race/Assault as it was related to that server. Oh well

I actually don't have problems with 40 ping feeling like 150.

The more actors there are being pushed from the server the more delay there will be from the server to your machine. Vehicles, players, monsters, bots, movers and emitters are big ones.

Thank you for your participation, devilishdude, but did you have a look at the date of the last post before you? .=

We have found out what the problem is and know the solution as well.. just takes time to turn it into reality.

The post was thread-relevant and new so the bump was valid.
