No idea - it depends on your distribution. If you've done step 2) then your package manager will have put the libs your system somewhere. Find them - the folder path will probably have "lib" in it, I reckon ;)

The UT binary (executable) does not know where they are either, and so step 3) is about creating symbolic links (shortcut files) in the UT folder, so that the binary will attempt to reference them and run OK.

OK I assume that I was missing some openAL and libstdc lib because it is now working perfectly.., in single player/instant action.

As far as I try to join a multiplayer game it crashes. It does not create any Cache folder nor any .ini file (SU or not).
Plus, I get this issue:

Code: Select all

ReadFile beyond EOF 0+4/0

History:

Exiting due to error

Anyone? Izumo maybe?

You were missing SDL, reading the error message helps, you know? It's really that simple as copy & pasting the actual error message to google.

Like I said, I did not install the library completely.
Now I've got that End Of File issue.., which is a message given by UT.

In case any player here feels like playing UT2004 on Linux please find the following shell.

In order to make it work follow the following steps:
  • Copy a working Windows UT2004 folder hierarchy to the Linux partition;
  • Download the shell script here;
  • Make the script executable: chmod +x UT2004SetUpLinux and run it in the UT2004 folder: ./UT2004SetUpLinux;
  • Run ut2004-bin-linux-amd64 in the UT2004/System: ./ut2004-bin-linux-amd64 (or ut2004-bin in a 32bit system).
  • Enjoy!
Copyable code here.

Use this code at your own risk.

Code: Select all

# Create a cdkey with your cdkey
read -p "Enter your cd key: " cdkeyval
echo $cdkeyval > cdkey
Right before downloading the bin files ;o)
