M2020 Gauss Rifle and Marksman rifle

When is it ever a benefit to use the special function of these weapons? I've tested them a couple of times to see if they could see through thin walls like the rail gun, but it doesn't seem to be able to. Although I can see the totems on invasion through very thin walls.

M2020's function forces Offline mode but reduces all incoming damage from the front by 50%.
FSSG-50's function is some weak IR. It's not useful imo.
