Texture / Character Detail
Generally speaking, what are your character / texture detail level settings?

Re: Texture / Character Detail
Before today: Everything on highest.
After today: Max character detail, everything else on low.
Gotta squeeze those advantages

Didn't know there was an advantage.... no wonder why some can shoot the small red/blue dot you did not notice and make a kill... I though they had better eyes or better brain recognition function...

Are you referring to the 2 drop-down options at the top-right of the "Settings | Display" menu ?

Re: Texture / Character Detail
OK, I was using High Texture, Low Character but I just changed that to High and it made almost no difference. I used to have an AMD 4850, but now I'm on a 7850, so I'll try that for a while, thanks.
Disabling the "Dynamic Lighting" and "Detail Textures" checkboxes underneath does make a big difference though.

Le Oska playing on low settings
btw. It's not hard to make that a mandatory check to have the highest settings.

Re: Texture / Character Detail
We could have a waiver for low settings allowance to paint the noobs with crappy PCs.

Re: Texture / Character Detail
I don't want to force players who have crappy hardware to use the highest settings, though I would definitely consider locking Character Detail to Texture Detail at the very least.
UT2004 is heavily CPU-limited. When I used a HD4870, I noticed no difference in FPS between any combination of graphics settings.
