Unwheel is different. Youve got maps that last 10 minutes ergo you have plenty of time to catch up. In Race some objectives are barely 1 minute long. If you let all the noobs pass first, the objective will be done before you start moving. Besides, this is Race, the more time you are in front the better or have you seen anyone in the formula 1 waiting for everyone to pass by before he starts moving? Plus, theres the shield in Race and good drivers dont have any problem with all this packed up shit in the beginning cause they are already miles away before the noobs start crashing into eachother.

Professional Formula 1 drivers have a high level of skill and no incentive to cause a crash in which they could die. But yes, if there are short objectives with quantum spam / pack ramming, then that's just a design flaw of RACE.

The vehicles appear very dark now in comparison to the environment. The reduction of the light brightness wasnt such a good idea imo.

I didn't notice that offline solo, but it is a bit of an issue. Elfy's contemplating just using the rainbow textured track at certain points (the go-faster stripes), whilst reverting back to the old textured track for the remaining sections. That way we could bump up the brightness again (I did drop it by 80%, maybe that was too much).

Is it possible to set the vehicles to be 'special lit'? The map uses a sun emitting special lighting to light up the decor, but not the track. If possible, that could be another way.

I dont think you can give the vehicles "ambient brightness". I would just turn the lighting up to the old level, I didnt see anything wrong with that.
