for some reason it does not open UT2k4...
I've tried:
-Start from windows start menu
-use direct access
-use run console
-directly in the application
-through steam
-via task manager creating a process...

I've restarted 3 times the pc
...
any ideas?
maybe this is why some others aren't playing

Check process list for copies of UT2004.exe.

Remove ut2004.ini and user.ini from the ut2004 directory.

No instance running, restarted 3 times.
I uninstalled and re-installed the ut2004 from steam and has exactly the same. Seems the steam made some actualization that is not compatible. Will try to remove the ini files and see if works. Is so weird, seriously I did play the last night, turn the pc off, go to work, turn my pc on, and pufff... UT didn't work :S, but steam is always updating from the clowd...

If its installed on steam go to steam games right click on ut2004 properties then something like files tab you will have verify integrity of game cache. Run that and it should fix any problem that ut may have.

Have you updated your graphic drivers? If not, try doing it...

What exactly is going on here. You launch ut2004 and nothing happens? At this point we are going to need to know ever little detail as the main obvious fixes are being exhausted.
It almost sounds like the program is being blocked from starting.
Also Have you installed any new anti virus's or firewalls?
Also Also just to verify have you tried running the program as admin?
Also Also Also mind checking to see the date on the ut2004.log file in system folder if its recent and is getting updated after every attempt to launch then the ut2004.log file will help us narrow down the problem.

Thanks guys, did all you said, nothing worked. Don't know really what is the problem. But, I exchanged the exe file with my old UT (the haxed), and now works fine with my steam registry key. I had to reconfigure all my ini file because the one I had was with movement in the y axis.
Really, the cause, no idea, the workout, replace the ut2004.exe file ... which has 4kb less than the steam version

It was running the exe, but the window was not opening. I know it runned because when I deleted the ini files as caly said, it generated new ones. That will not stop me to play ut2k4...

The suggestion was to move them outside of the UT dir, but I'm glad it's good now.
