Discuss matters related to LDG or UT2004 which aren't specific to any server.

Game crashing

My game is really unstable for reasons unknown. Crashbox says "ran out of virtual memory".

How can I fix it?

Depends if only UT is randomly crashing - the obvious things are to clear the Cache subfolder or try re-installing. But for peace of mind I would usually suggest verifying that the memory & hard disk are free from faults - both of which take some time:

a) Memory - make a Linux Live CD/DVD via a working PC, then on the suspect PC boot off that and run the Memory Checker for a whole pass or two.
b) Hard disk - Go to Windows Explorer, right-click on the Drive, go to Properties->Tools and run Check (may be need to run during a reboot if system drive).

I'm inclined to believe it is not hardware related as I have no issue in playing my entire library of non UT2004 media and entertainment.

On another note, there is a 64bit executable in the UT2004 folder but for some reason it just opens a black screen and nothing happens.

I had this problem on an i7 64bit win 8.1 32 GB RAM SSD high end system, which was a bit unsettling, I fixed my issues by toning down a few settings in-game (I had everything set to Max thinking that my new PC should be able to handle all that) I also reduced a couple of BW settings too, turned off Gore (I think) from there. Anyway it never crashes now so I guess it worked.

OK, I've got all my standard UT settings on Normal, but my Ballistics settings on minimal - try that. Might be happening with specific weapon effects I suppose.

For 64-bit, the exe uses "ut2004-win64.ini" of course. Try renaming that out of the way, and then run the 64-bit exe and it should create a new default one which should work. If it does work, you can then copy the 32-bit "ut2004.ini" over BUT I think one line has to be changed:
RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice # 32-bit
RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice # 64-bit

I'll give the 64 bit a try.

Kinda don't want to play on low settings just to play the game. It already looks bland as a 2003 era game.

Have you tried simply rebooting? sometimes ut2004 runs like shit on my pc too and usually a reboot fixes it, don't know why it happens though .=

Couldn't get the 64 executable to work properly, so I'm giving lower settings a try. Game has maximum but I disabled each and every blood/gore effect from BW. Maybe it'll help.

try allowing more virtual memory (hardrive space) in the ini file. There is a line that allows you to get additional cache space: cachesize or something like that. It worked for me long time ago if I recall correctly..
