Pretty much this, I stopped updating all my software because rolling back takes too long.

FWIW, I have now tested UT on a 5 year old laptop (ACER ASPIRE 5551) that has been upgraded to Windows 10 x64. I copied my UT folder over and ran the x64 executable - it worked without any problems given the following:
  • ReduceMouseLag was set to false
  • A valid CD/DVD key was set in the registry (for x64)
  • In UT2004.ini, [Engine.Engine]RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice (for x64)
It even informed me that it had automatically turned on the Compatibility property on the executable for "Disable display scaling", because I use 125% DPI on the desktop. I always had to do that manually in previous versions of Windows.

So, another 10 years of UT2004 to look forward to.

You don't need to set reducemouselag to false if you use the 64 exe. In fact, there are four different workarounds available as of now to make the game work:

1) keeping the 32 bit exe and set reducemouselag to false;
2) keeping the 32 bit exe and modify the .ini file to use the OpenGl renderer;
3) using the 64 bit exe (it creates a separate ut2004-win64.ini file, and it's already set to use the Direct3d 9 renderer, you don't need to change it);
4) using the wrapper I talked about on page 3 of this thread.

The fourth solution is actually the best because it looks like it doesn't have any known problems, as it was also confirmed by Tarie$.

I'm pretty sure you can change it in the control panel, surely there must be more than one voice. .=
