Interesting, an explorer search brought this up

C:\Documents and Settings\****\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\UT2004\System\utcompr04.u

Deleting that file fixed it, yayyy.

Caly your advice wasnt so good - who knew it would be in a weird folder?

Den - thank you :)

I told you in pm earlier about this crap when ut is using folders not only in default place. Be happy.
But maybe I have another solution. It apears very rarely but with some problems on PC some files from System folder can be unactive and ut2004 will start using another folder. Try to search these fucking files not only in UT2004 folders but on whole PC. And if find then do as I wrote.

Where is UT installed that it requires VirtualStore to be used?

So just to recap - if you get a mismatch, you must delete the file from your system folder or any other folder UT2004 uses to store the files. Sometimes the server just got a fresh update, then you may need to restart UT2004 even if you didn't install anything.

I don't know why those files were there, the program itself is in C:/program files/ut2004

Maybe cause its 64 bit system? (I have 2 program files folders one normal, one x64

Newer versions of Windows put user files in these directories if your current user has no write access in the UT directory located in the normal program folder. This can happen if you installed the game with a different account (e.g. an administrator account) but use your normal one to play the game.

Exactly. But not only on newer versions, problems with access can appear on any versoin and lots of things can cause it.
