Re: Unreal Tournament for Unreal Engine 4 is coming
Convincing post. I must admit that a lot of my distaste towards UT4 is because, as you say, of the completely obnoxious UT99 dickwads who continually push their game as the greatest thing since sliced bread, discount the effect of nostalgia and are unbearable to deal with when they do get their way. I stopped reading the boards when this came to a head.
This must look so ironic considering the project I'm actually working on right now, huh?

As long as there is mutator support then we as a community can have the server however we want it.

Your face when Standard Servers Only? You'd have to be insane to think they're not going to play the bullshit whitelisting game.

Also I don't know what whitelisting is.

In 2k4, by default, Standard Servers Only is checked. If your server runs any mutators not whitelisted by Epic, your server will be DROPPED ENTIRELY from the list. UTComp isn't whitelisted, and UT2Vote was kicked off the whitelist because they added hitsounds, thus ticking off some guy at Epic who thought he knew better than the community what makes a standard server.

Re: Unreal Tournament for Unreal Engine 4 is coming
IMO, I found the movement mechanics to "feel completely different to UT99 and UT3, as well as ut2004 due to no dodge jump. it seems to be very smooth compared to all the other games. If they don't change it at the moment, I think people will get used to no dodge jump and double jump really quickly. With the infinite wall jump, I feel like I have to have insanely fast hands to keep up in the thin walls and Epic did mention something about single tap dodging. If they implemented that for the infinite wall dodging, it would be very smooth

I'm as eager as anyone for a decent successor to UT2004, but UT4 is probably a year from beta and 2 years from delivery - I can't take any review or experience of alpha (or pre-alpha) code seriously.
Until then, every night is BW night.
