Re: Decreasing playerbase
With the risk getting a 22 player map with 6 ppl on server and counterwise....great idea. Can´t wait to spec the spam with 22 ppl on Crpyt-of-Fuck.

LDG doesn't have 22 players left
But seriously, you can't vote a 6 player map with 22. Why would that change?

That reminds me when ordering food in China for the first time ... clearly, no fish'n'chips there, and yet I ate well that day.iRobot wrote:The LDG maplist is like a foreign restaurant menu. Filled with lots of wondrous things you have never heard of, or have no idea what it is, so you end up ordering fish and chips from the 'classic english' section of the menu.
If you want to have people experience new things, you have to push them toward it. Have a random map day for example.
Why not have some spam?giZmo wrote:With the risk getting a 22 player map with 6 ppl on server and counterwise....great idea. Can´t wait to spec the spam with 22 ppl on Crpyt-of-Fuck.

Oh man, I'd love to play BW AS-SubRosa with 22 players

Re: Decreasing playerbase
Having a random map vote would be completely detrimental, and as last night proved we are starting to play a greater variety of maps.
If adding screenshots to each map would help, I can find the time to do this at some point.

It must be given freely. In abundance.”

Screenshots only show if the user has the map downloaded.

Re: Decreasing playerbase
Not necessarily true. I've been playing UT for more than a decade+, and have played the vast majority of maps. I know what maps I like to play and what maps I don't like to play, and I think this is probably true for the vast majority of players... which is why we continue to cycle through the same OLD maps. Based on past experience, I also know that there are maps that could be made available to players that are better, IMO, than some of the maps that are currently available.iRobot wrote:The LDG maplist is like a foreign restaurant menu. In regard to some recommending that you force players to play maps that they obviously don't care for... not a good idea, IMO.
33 versions of a particular map is obviously unnecessary, but wouldn't it possibly be better to have more than one version, so that we don't have to play the same version over and over (and over and over) again? In regard to map suggestions... I vote OrbitalEngine, but it has to include BomBom and Michie if at all possible... I really miss trying to pry BomBom out of his perceived sanctuary, and I really miss killing Michie and reading his inappropriate and asinine comments.Aberiu wrote:I don't think that having 33 versions of highlander is going to help anything. As for the new maps I guess the problem is that nobody wants to scroll through countless poor quality maps stored on BU or epic forums. Especially considering that screenshots and dl links are usually dead by now.
I can suggest a couple of maps though. Not sure if Aza will bother updating the maplist, but if he will, maybe we can start a thread for people to post map suggestions.

Re: Decreasing playerbase
What exactly can a new player do? The player base wants to exclusively play a game type that's extremely punitive to those that aren't as good as the rest. Making spam more viable doesn't put the bad players on an equal footing when better players can spam just as hard and move through the map and dodge better. Better players will stomp worse players because they are better players. Freon simply magnifies this fact.Izumo wrote:Sorry, but thaw rate & KS adjustments don't really do anything for you, if you get dead easily when being low-skilled player. And what about complete newcomers without much skill? Do they have a chance to catch-up ( = spam awayAzarael wrote: Bullshit. Harassment of weaker players mostly stopped - those who receive shit make themselves targets through constant complaining (one person in mind.) Thaw speed and KS thresholds both use the skill value to be more favorable to weaker players. Pressure from higher skilled players regarding the amount of spam that was going on led to ammo tracking, which existed in regular Freon as well - we just didn't have support for it.)?

Re: Decreasing playerbase
The fact, that we have now lot of experience of about how to play the game have good side. Its possible to document it. So, it will be the game + good strategies to play it.
So, even if no one ever would be playing there server, there still would be files left.
Game itself and good practices about playing it. Anyone from now and forever would be able to play it. And in a cool way.
Also, its nice to publish it somewhere in public file store, for everyone.

Hey, why do I have to be thrown here again? ((((Azarael wrote:It's a gaping hole in my side, though. Those players who don't actually have any real debating skills have a very easy troll to fall back on - all they have to do is claim that I make changes for my own benefit and I have absolutely no way of shooting that down. This tactic's most commonly used by Öska, but it's also been employed by dk and Kinjin.
