The shield gun was not meant for taking damage, it was meant for movement. A49 does this. The LS-14 is an invalid replacement to the shock rifle because it lacks the shock explosion.

Why do I see flag carriers in vctf matches activating their shield guns when running away with the flag then? You should keep in mind that most vctf maps have rather larger open areas to allow for vehicle movements. Therefore, on most of these maps the shield gun jumps won't give you a real advantage but the shield can protect you from long range fire.

AFAIK no BW weapon has a shock combo, i.e. no BW weapon will replace the shock rifle in every aspect...
