Tournament

Post by Todori » Sat 01 Sep , 2012 3:38 pm

Hi guys,
Yesterday I got an idea, that it would be a nice thing to host a little Tournament.
In my humble opinion, there are a lot of positive issues to arrange this.
The notification for the Competition could be managed over the forum, which will bring some more users and make the community more interesting. <- Advertising
And of course, the main thing: Lot of fun!
Teams with 4-10 Players would be nice. So the number of teams depends on the number of players.
A battle take place on two different maps, a draw will bring an one map addition. The mode of the Tournament depends on the number of team, but as long we got two teams, it could be really funny.
I put a little example at the end.
PS: The arrangement (number) of the player should be on par with the quality/skill of the player. It could be taken from “gametracker”, to make things easy.

Can be done if skill can be assessed appropriately.

You are totally right, it’s really hard to make an absolute Evaluation. Certainly we only need a relative Evaluation. Is player one better than player 2? I think that’s possible. We should give it a try.

I already got a rough plan how this could work:
1. Space of time: When should the tournament take place (only rough plan)
2. Choose moderator: Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think admins have enough to do. It’s seems not a big mistake to find a few committed player to take care of the whole Plan.
3. Create a new topic: Create a topic in forum. If you came on main page of LDG, you should see it directly.
4. Announcement: An announcement at all LDG-Servers in all three accepted languages would activate more player, then only an English announcement on ballistic server#1
It could be something like this:
NEW EVENT: TOURNAMENT!!! Hi guys, we are planning a big LDG-Tournament on ballistic Server. There will be several Teams battle each other. We NEED every player, the participation is full FREE!! For more information visit the FORUM @ http://www.ldg-gaming.eu!!!
It’s important to make everything with the Forum: registration, information or only questions. During the further procedure, I suggest to advice the player to other topics of the forum, like the weapons statistic or bug reports.
5. Detailed planning: Next steps are registration, evaluation, and so on.
That’s all for the moment, I think. I don’t want to obtrude myself, but I think a tournament could be positive for the community, the server, the admins and of course the player, including me. Fun and joy of planning are driving me on. At the moment I have nothing to do, and this sounds interesting.

I know that nothing is decided and only admins make the important decisions.

PS: My English isn’t as good as my German, but it hope you can understand everything.

Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. That’s Relativity.

By the way. Good feature for tournament...
Is it possible to implement ability for player to see - how many other people spectating you? And what are their names?
For example. If i am the last one alive at my team, then i should see list of all other teammates, watching me. And hoping, that i will find them and defreeze them.

1. When you are the last one in team, you will hear a sound ("dididip") which says "dude. watch out, you are the last survivor".
2. All teammates will be shown via the utcomp system already.
3. Searching them shouldn't be hard since the little white dot on the utcomp team overlay shows you the direction to your team mates.

Don't get me wrong, but personally I'd like to keep the screen as blank as possible. The more spammy messages there are, the worse it is.
I would however agree on having a visual feedback on being the "last man standing". Not via a message, but rather a symbol directly above/underneath the team overlay (included to it). What do you think?
