New weapon releasing schedule

Post by Azarael » Sun 30 Sep , 2012 5:43 pm

Let me prefix this by stating that this is just to gather opinions and implies no result whatsoever since I'm not in control of this.

This poll concerns the new Ballistic weapons in development. I wish to know if players would prefer a single massive release of, say, 30 weapons, or monthly / bi-monthly releases of 2-3 weapons.

Releasing them in small groups of 2-3 will encourage more use of those 2-3 weapons, and therefore help with balance/bugfixing/tweaking.

It is difficult to balance and monitor 30 weapons at once.

I agree with iRobot. Also how many weapons do you plan to add? 10? 50?...
Its all about the game, and how you play it
All about control, and if you can take it
All about your debt, and if you can payit
Its all about pain and whos gonna make it...

I'm assuming that the final result will be between 20 and 35.

Azarael is correct in approximate final weapon count. I would personally love to see incremental release as well, I think we could do a lot more with it in terms of gathering interest and fans, plus it'd be great for bug testing (though weapons we'd release would be released with the intent of them being bug free and finished already, having you guys all using it would be a lot more thorough).

We kind of did this for last version, though a lot less controlled, which ultimately just made a mess of things, as we just made it an open beta and everyone got whatever we had made whenever it was made. If we instead release all of the updated v9 weapons + a couple initial weapons and add 2 or 3 weapons every month or two, plus release a ModDB news update to go with it highlighting the new weapons, I can't really see many down sides to it.

Are you planning to delete old weapons for those new weapons?
I prefere the "a few per month" schedule, too.
Would be easier to test every weapon detailed.

Would also prefer release in batches.
Can we already get a little sneak preview on the new weapons? :D

Oh, and hi all, my first post :).

I´m playing UT BW since ~ 10 months and i still didnt explore all weapons and specials, so i also think its a good idea to release small updates.
ye ye, im not changing weapons very often, im not a explorer at all. Also i found some weapons which i really love to play and wont miss them in action.

To be honestly, i dont know any reason why release a huge pack is better, just its much easier to handle for admins/coders and related persons/issues ;)

I would also like it to be released in some batches. Like everybody here says, you can test em, balance em, and let people testing em.
