voting bans?

Post by SageOfSixPaths » Sun 04 Nov , 2012 11:47 am

Hi, I was banned from voting for three days because of a map I voted..still sounds strange when I say it..isn't that going against the concept of voting in the first place?

I haven't received any ban id so my apologies for not being able to follow the ban appeal format nor has it been posted on thia forum.

But I just wanted to raise this because I honestly think banning people from voting because of voting certain maps is a step too far..and concerning my ban..I honestly didn't vote for a certain map to be a troll :/ if you want to ban then I guess we ahould know which maps would result in a ban (by name - but this would be tedious on admins so I don't recommend it) or jus disable certain maps if a threshold amount of players are reached?

As for my ban its only one day left (I think) I'm willing to wait it out but would appreciate it being lifted :) have asked others what they thought and some seem as confused as i.

Apologies for anything wron I've said..peace! The Sage

You aren't the first. If you vote shit maps, and you know that those maps aren't made for the particular number of player, you "destroy" the game.

Then just block those maps which are too small once there is a certain amount of players.. Lets say everyone votes for a shit map..will everyone be banned from voting?

The vote weights are in place to ensure everyone has a good experience.

Voting a small map deliberately for 22 players is considered griefing.

yeah but voting for a small map may just be a matter of preference rather than anything malicious..if it's really such a bother..just remove the small maps..

That idea was better than removing them.

While there are vote weights set up for majorly played maps, I don't expect to have to babysit people in order to prevent voted maps from ruining the server. If a tiny map is voted, the entire game degenerates into spamming. In the first vote ban case, the map voted was Orbital Engine, which is known to be small and spammy; this map is actually weighted against but the weighting failed because the map's name begins with [. The second case was when 1on1-Solitude was voted, which speaks for itself. If players on the server are voting a map marked as 1on1 with 22 players, then I consider this to be asking for the removal of their vote. Nagem is the exception to this rule.

As I've said before, voting is a privilege and I expect it to be used wisely. It appears that certain players who are known to favour spam are trying to ruin the game for their own advantage by voting maps they know are going to be overloaded. I will take any attempt to do this very seriously.

Admins never force their own picks with one exception: if two maps are neck and neck in the voting and one is an aforementioned tiny map, the other map will be forced. In all other cases, mid-game voting will be forced and the players will pick the next map.

Must admit that it's a bit weird if something you are legitimately able to do isn't allowed.

Also, I mostly like chaotic maps where we are on one very small map with a lot of players

but let me point out something...

Since it's voting, it can be easily countered by other votes. If a map finaly comes true, this means that the majority of the votes agree with a chaos map. Isn't that a flaw?

Majority decisions are not necessarily the best decisions, because they depend upon the demographics of the players online or within a community. If the majority present at any given time votes for a "chaotic map" (in reality, spam) deliberately in order to drag the game down for the other players, this is not acceptable. It defines the AS/Race community and I won't have it spread to BW.
