Fag and its variants are banned because they're homophobic insults. If you honestly cannot talk to people without saying that word then you need to reevaluate your own vocabulary. You were banned for a single game and the banning staff member was Calypto, whose duty it is to expand upon what exactly happened.

There is a divide in the rules between the BW servers (which are more strictly moderated) and the AS/Race server. AS/Race these days isn't my business, do as you like on there, but on the BW servers that rule stands. For me as well.

Hmm? I don't recall that "fag" would ever be a bannable offence. It's even a trigger for sentitel. I must say I'm with Michie on this, this is becoming ridiculous (when it is not spammed).

Secondly, I'm further going to question this ban - why under such terms "with fag / gay being bannable" Calypso's frequently spammed word "goy" = non-Jew would not be?

You can't have things acceptable on one LDG server, and prohibited on another LDG server.

OK, let's expand on this.

BW and AS/Race have been differently moderated for months now, and I'm surprised that you're all not aware of this. There are bans in the log for "insulting", which nobody has ever been banned for on AS/Race barring severe harassment, for obvious reasons. giZmo has himself declared that if the rules on BW have to match the rules on #1 (and not vice versa), he would no longer be interested in administrating.

Much license is given on AS/Race because of the historical friction between the two gametype communities which inhabit it, the nature of the playerbase and, lately, the reduction of available administrators for AS/Race.

Specifically on the word "fag" and its variants: http://www.ldg-gaming.eu/viewtopic.php? ... 6&start=10 was where the topic was first mentioned. I have also had a player of that orientation who plays on the server tell me that he finds it extremely offensive. I take the view that if anything both a) peripheral and b) unnecessary to the game is causing offense, it can and should be moderated.

On "goy": See above. For me, it's a completely inoffensive word with no power or history behind it. Even if you know the actual meaning of it ("non-Jew"), what's there to be offended about?

It's borderline retarded to have rules differing between servers when LDG is supposed to be a community and encourages playing on all servers. Hell, they're even advertised in game.

Why even mention gizmo? If he wants to make a threat like that, then it's kinda not the place to mention it here.

Enforcement between administrators has always differed. Look how attitudes to glitching have changed on AS/Race for example. It's still an offense but it depends on the admin who is present whether you get banned for it.

In actual fact, there IS an anti-insulting rule.

3e) Do not insult other players. One might rage every now and then but direct insults - even 'idiot' - is not welcome. If you feel insulted, contact an admin instead of fighting back.

So this has actually now become a case of differing enforcement of rules by different admins. BW admins follow the rules to the letter. AS/Race is less strictly moderated. Do any of you really think that should change?

I mention giZmo because whether anyone likes it or not, politics is an issue for LDG and I have no intention of seeing giZmo leave the staff. I'd rather declare things openly rather than hold a secret bias.

I don't really see a problem in a tolerance on different servers. Different communities, different moderators. While it would be ideal to see it same on all servers, it's pretty much impractical. giZmo is the admin moderating the BW server and I don't see a problem with him setting the level of tolerance on BW, as long as it's not exaggerated of course.

As for "goy" I can easily imagine it being using in conjuction with Nazism because of it's meaning (not saying Calypso is using it that way!) and I myself would consider that bannable (also giZmo questioned that if I remember).

Back to fag, there is a topic about exaggeration in the admin forum. You can't just ban for a word based on opinion of one person. Then another person would find word y offensive and another person would find word z offensive etc. and it would end up with maddness. Given what you had said about "goy" I would consider my opinion about it a bit exaggerated - so don't see an issue there then. I don't see an issue with fag, cunt etc. either and if someone gets banned for that (in a manner he would get banned for n-word, just with different ban length) then I do find that exaggerated. I myself would actually consider "fag", "cunt", "goy" etc. on a similar sort of "level". And there are also more phrases commonly used around and seen fine commonly, such as "grammar nazi".

Of course another story is when it's spammed.
