Reverse Friendly Fire

Post by iRobot » Tue 04 Dec , 2012 4:31 pm

We have all witnessed how rFF does nothing to help ease the spam, it has only increased the frustration of people walking in your face and YOU being punished for it.

Therefore, I motion for regular friendly fire to be enabled, to encourage more sensible play by everyone. You wouldn't jump in the crossfire with FF enabled, so lets build that mindset up.

I don't see a risk of abuse, as the BW server pretty much permanently has a moderator or admin on it at the busier times.

I honestly think this is worth a trial. You could make it like 50% or 25% though, 100% would just be a massacre.

Opinions?

It did reduce the spam, until it was reduced to 25% ._.
But yes, ppl walking to your line of fire sucks with rFF.

With normal FF, melee is not possible, coz the spammers on your team will pwn you. And many ppl will just shoot you for trollface

Yeah, reduced, and rightly so - because as I said in the first sentence of my last post. Someone walks in your face while you're shooting, and you get punished for it.

It should be the other way round. Hence the motioning for regular FF.

RFF could be disabled for non-rapid fire weapons?

I don't see the point in band-aid fixing stupidity.

If someone goes charging into the crossfire, they should suffer consequences.

I'm 100% sure that there will be rages about normal FF when a noob teammate kills you. Just as noob can walk into your fire, another noob will start firing when he's behind you. Then another HAMR noob behind you will spam the area. Then some melee noob will cut you down because he's spamming LMB / RMB and you're around him. Both rFF & FF are imperfect, but certainly rFF is better than FF, because the occurence of "bad rFF" is lower than the occurence of "bad FF" and we don't have a proper way how to isolate the bad cases now.

Sure enable 100% normal FF to the game and you are toasted if two of your mates spam into a
group of enemies you are fighting with. All what they will say after is "Oops" and we/you can do
nothing to punish them for that cause you can´t prove it was on purpose.

Compromise then. Is it possible to tweak FF so both the shooter, and the reciever, take 25% of the damage?

No way to abuse unless you want to die too, and people can learn to be more careful.

Hmm.

This is now a problem. With RFF on, you get punished for the bad play of others when they cut across you. With FF on, you get punished if noobs start spamming into close combat and melee.

Could you add a buffer of sorts that ignores the first X damage before rFF kicks in? That should provide lenience for a few stray bullets and still punish people who sustain fire on team mates.
